On October 28th the Pau Hana Parrot Heads met for a “Pau Hana Friday” gathering at one of our favorite watering holes, The Dixie Grill in Aiea. Fourteen members were able to make the monthly social, enjoy some great Happy Hour drinks and pupus and listen to some Buffett and Trop Rock favorites. We had the pleasure of welcoming new club member Mark Jones, who has come to us from the Birmingham Al club. Thanks to everyone who was able to make the event, and also a big Mahalo to Patrick and the crew at Dixie Grill for their great service and also for letting us use their sound system.

Great time for all those who came out this past Saturday night for Rob Mehl’s House Concert at the Waikiki Yacht Club. Rob put on a fantastic show for our small group, it was a really magical night. He incorporates many of the sights and sounds of old Waikiki into his Trop Rock song lyrics and stories. Most likely one of the best performances to ever hit the Yacht Club. Hoping to catch his act again sometime in the future when he comes back to the Islands to produce his upcoming CD.
A big Mahalo also to club member and sponsor Lyle Holden for reserving the venue for our group, and our VP Deane Leidholt for use of his sound equipment. Check out our website and facebook page Pau Hana ParrotHeads for more pictures.
Please join us in October at Jimmy Buffett’s for the “Mac Attack”, San Diego entertainer Mac MacDonald will be putting on a show for our group. It’s always a wild time with Mac…please check out his website at http://www.macmacdonald.com/fr_homepage.cf

Phinz Up to all those who were able to attend our annual “Late Summer Memership Bash” at Jimmy Buffett’s this past Saturday Aug 20th. We kicked off the event at 3:00pm with Domonique and Bronson, the guys from Borderline who put on a fantastic set. The duo covered many Island favorites as well as some Buffett, Zac Brown and Kenny Cheney hits. Bronson ripped it up with his Ukulele, probably one of the best solo’s ever performed on the “Porch of Indecision”.
At around 4:45pm Trop Rock entertainer Scotty Bryan took the stage and did not disappoint. He covered many Buffett tunes old and new along with other Trop Rock favorites and some originals, putting on another unforgettable performance that lasted until Buffett’s shut the place down at around 9:00pm.
MC Jeff Eck, kept the show moving smoothly during the breaks with plenty of great door and raffle prizes. So many way’s to win and so little time!!!
Club Vice Pres. Deane Leidholt kicked off the final round of bidding on the auction at 8:00pm. Some of the most desired item’s were a LandShark Bar Light, several decorative full size Pacifico and Corona Surfeboards, a framed Wyland Print and a limited edition Kona Longboard sign.
We would like to give special thanks to David Erp, Randy Calinski and Jason the sound guy from Jimmy Buffett’s for allowing us to hold this great event on the “Porch of Indecision” also to Margaritaville store manager Colleen Benevedes for all the great donations used as door prizes. Many thanks to the entire list of Restaurants, Bars and Businesses Island wide who generously contributed over $1300 in gift certificates and the many auction items. Finally, a big Mahalo to our entertainer’s and the entire group of Pau Hana Parrot Head Officers and Board Members who put in many hours of hard work and helped make this event possible.
Management at Jimmy Buffett’s stated that they’ve heard lot’s of great feedback about our event and would love to have us back again next year. The final tally raised from the raffle and auction for USO Hawaii was $2450.00. A pretty good showing for our small Phlock!!!

We had a mellow flocking at the Waikiki Yacht Club on Saturday June 25th. A phlock of 12 plus 4-6 of the yacht club members joined us. Clay Deaver, Deane Leidholt and Clay’s ipod provided the music. Mahalo nui loa to Clay for reserving the space and bringing his sound equipment. Everyone enjoyed the $2 Heinikens and $1-2 hamburgers and hot dogs available. It is someplace we should keep in mind again for future Phlockings. It was very relaxing and we had cool breezes. Clay, Does the Club owe you $35 for the reservation?
Please remember our Annual Pau Hana “Late Summer Bash” is August 20th this year, please make sure to keep your calendar open for our biggest party of the year. We’ll have the entire “Porch of Indecision” down at Buffett’s and live music all afternoon long with Scotty Bryan out of Cape Coral FL and Borderline.
In the recent weeks we’ve also been working on a house concert sometime in September with Rob Mehl a Trop Rock artist our of Southern California and a Trop Rock concert with Sunny Jim and Latitudes is planned for February.
Mahalo to those seventeen folks who joined us this past Saturday May 28th, on the Waikiki Party Bus. The trip started outside Jimmy Buffett’s, continued through the streets of Waikiki, with a quick cruise through Ala Wai Harbor to view a grounded Sailboat, then off to Hank’s Cafe and the Dragon Room in ChinaTown to visit our favorite Australian Bartender Paul. After several drinks we loaded up, headed back to Waikiki and finally disembarked for the night at Buffett’s.
Plenty of great Trop Rock, Buffett and dancing were shared with the entire Waikiki and downtown crowd. Everyone seemed to have a great time and we only lost one Parrot Head along the way, luckily he stumbled into Straub Hospital and found his way back to the Beachcomber….
Thanks to Linda and Shannon for all the great pics. Please check them out at our website www.pauhanaparrotheads.org or our facebook page.
Please remember to keep Saturday August 20th open on your calendar for our annual “Pau Hana Summer Bash” down at the Beachcomber. Special music guest this year is Trop Rock entertainer Scotty Bryan from Cape Coral Fl. Hope to see everyone there!!!
Sunday morning brought the Pau Hana Parrot Heads out to Ala Moana Beach Park for a very early start to a great event. We had twenty die hard members show up at 4:30 am to start setting up our “water station” for the “Run Like a Diva” Wahine Half Marathon and 5k Race. Regardless of the early time it was a beautiful day for a race, and quite a magnificent sight seeing a nearly full moon set over the Pacific to the West, and the sun raising over Diamond Head in the East.
Everyone jumped right in, and did a fantastic job of setting up the canopy, sound system, tables and pouring thousands of cups of cold water in preparation for the 2500 race participants. At 6:30 am the first runner’s started passing through our station and were greeted with plenty of cheers, loud Buffett and Trop Rock tunes and plenty of ice cold water. The morning flew by as the coarse brought the “Divas” through our area a total of five times before it ended three and a half hours later.
The “Pau Hana Station”, ran very smoothly and went better that could have been expected for our first attempt. Everyone really jumped right in from the start and worked very hard to make this a successful venture for our club. We even had three “Parakeets” who worked their tails off the entire morning, handing out water and raking up cups, without any complaints. Everyone seemed to have a great time, even with the early start many folks have asked when we can do another!!! We had some great suggestions for future water stations, to make them even more interesting for the runners and improved exposure for our club, we welcome and additional ideas folks may have.
The “Run Like a Diva” organization will be donating $200 to the Leeward Domestic Abuse Shelter Child & Family Service “House of Hope”, on behalf of the Pau Hana Parrot Heads. In total we donated 120 man hours to this great event.
Again a big Mahalo to all the folks who came out for this event, and a special thanks to Karen Bullard and David Isaacson for their time and efforts in coordinating with the event organizers and setting this activity up for us. Also thanks to Clay Deaver for again letting us borrow his generator, fantastic sound system and making sure we had nonstop music for the entire day, we really appreciate it…It’s folks like you who show up for not only the parties, but other community service and charitable activities as well that make this a great club.
Please check out our pictures, and if you have additional ones email them to us asap and we’ll post them on the website www.pauhanaparrotheads.org and Facebook page.
