3.  Old Business

Still awaiting $200 refund from Elks Club and notification on if PHPHC is expected to pay for 4th Keg of Beer which was not tapped.  Lee will contact Jay Sweet PHPHC sponsor to resolve issue with Elks Club.

Discussion on how well the 5 O’ Clock on the Beach event progressed, any problems or recommendations for a future event at the Elks.  General group consensus was that the Elks staff were very helpful, provided great service and made adjustments to some of the menu prices to fit our needs.  Would get confirmation next time on if Elks will have a cash bar that serves additional drinks which partygoers may purchase, or if all drink transactions need to by ticket only.  Some folks heard complaints about choice of beer, Elks never responded on club inquirer to bring in Landshark Beer. A suggestion was made by Nelson that club needs to see if  vendors/entertainment sponsored or reimbursed in any way by the PHPHC has their own liability policy.  Lee made recommendation that club needs to have more announcements about PHPHC and membership in future events.

4.  New Business:

Activities/Events:  Discussion held on upcoming “Run Like a Dive” Half Marathon Water Station event on April 1st.  So far 14 volunteers have pledged to help out for the event, so it was the general consensus that PHPHC go ahead with the event.  Karen Bullard will be the PHPHC contact and work with the “Diva” committee.  Lee will put out more information via email after Karen attends the meeting on March 30th.

Club briefly discussed August “Late Summer Membership Bash” and need to talk to new assistant GM at Jimmy Buffett’s about holding event at their “Porch of Indecision” again this year.  Also need to see if they will pre-approve entertainers whom the PHPHC would like to have play at the event or maybe at the establishment throughout the year.

8.  Adjournment:

       Meeting adjourned at 4:00 p.m

The Pau Hana Parrot Heads again supported the annual “Run Like a Diva” Wahine Half Marathon and 5k run this past Sunday morning, by setting up and manning the primary water station for the event.  We would like to thank each of the 15 club members who showed up at Magic Island bright and early to make preparations for the 6:00 am start time.  Our gang kept the refreshments flowing to the thousands of runners who passed through the station four times throughout the morning.  The club also provided plenty of encouragement to the racers and blasted out the live tunes throughout the entire morning.   Everyone had a great time providing a much needed service for this great event.  Probably one of the greatest locations of any Parrot Head charity event in the entire country, like they say “Lucky to Live Hawaii”!!!

A total of 75 man-hours were logged, and a donation of $200 from the “Run Like a Diva” event which will go directly to the “Leeward Women’s Shelter”.  Again thanks to all club members who showed up and helped make this event possible!!!  Also Mahalo to Karen Bullard who coordinated with the race committee and to Clay Deaver for use of the great sound system.  We look forward to seeing everyone at our next outing in late May.

Aloha,

We would like to say Mahalo to all those folks who were able to attend our “5 O’Clock on the Beach” Tailgate Event, especially those who helped with preparation, ticket sales and teardown at the end of the day.  Sounds like everyone had a good time, enjoyed some great entertainment then finished out the day with a great performance with Jimmy over at the Shell.
The total attendance may have been down a little this year, but still a nice turnout with nearly 160 folks through the door…probably helped keep the drink lines shorter!!!  As usual our group “Partied with a Purpose”, raising $600 for USO Hawaii.
Our next potential outing will be the “Run like a Diva” Wahine Half Marathon on Sunday April 1st.  We have been asked again this year to run a water station at the event.  The turnout for this outing last year was fantastic and much appreciated by the race coordinators.  In return for our efforts we’ll accumulate much need man hours and a donation will be made to a charity of our choice by the event.
If you’re interested in helping out please let us know asap, so we can confirm our participation with the coordinators.  Remember it’s an early start, probably around 5:00am, but should be completed by 10:00am.  If folks are interested we can also have a picnic/beach gathering at Ala Moana after the event or go out to breakfast….whichever folks prefer.  Again please let us know soon, so we can confirm this event.

                                                                                                       Phinz Up and Mahalo,

Feb 29

This past Saturday Feb 25 th  the Pau Hana Parrot Heads were treated to a fantastic afternoon of live Trop Rock music with James”Sunny Jim”White and Tom and Michelle Becker of “Latitude”.  The event was a meeting of several Florida clubs visiting after their “2012 Aloha Cruise” and our local Parrot Head gang at the Waikiki Yacht Club.  “Sunny Jim” opened the afternoon with some of his classics as well as tunes off his newest CD.  Local artist John Canizzarro followed with a short set of Island Classic’s and a few original’s as well.  Next Tom and Michelle took the stage and soon had everyone doing the “Conga Line”…and even did a John Denver request.  To finish the evening off Jim, Tom and Michelle performed one final set of 60′s and classic rock that had everyone out on the dance floor!!!

As always with Parrot Heads, it was a “Party with a Purpose”.  The 50/50 auction raised $450 for the McKinley High School “Close-Up” program, which takes disadvantaged local student’s on the trip of a lifetime to Washington D.C. and the U.S. Capital each year.  A secondary fundraiser for the event was an effort to raise some cash for Pau Hana Trop Rock favorite…Scotty Bryan who recently had his beloved ”Taylor” Guitar stolen after doing a show in Cape Coral FL.  After a ticket for the upcoming “Buffett” show was auctioned plus a few donations, nearly $400 was collected to help out Scotty.

A big Mahalo to “Sunny Jim” and Tom and Michelle Becker for providing some really incredible entertainment for our event.  We really appreciate having the opportunity to experience some great Southwest Florida sytle Trop Rock that is rarely seen or heard out here in the Islands.  Would also like to thank John for coming out sharing some local tunes with us as well.  As usual our Yacht Club sponsor Clay Deaver really went all out by setting our club up with one of the best waterfront venues in Waikiki.

Please don’t forget to pick up your tickets for our upcoming “5 O’Clock on the Beach” Buffett Tailgate event on March 18th at the Waikiki Elks Lodge.  Will be our third event of this kind at the Elk’s, and should be exciting as usual!!!  Great live music all afternoon long from John Canizzarro and Borderline, opportunities for pictures with “The Birdguy” and all his Phlock, plus hundreds of fellow Parrot Heads from all corners of the nation getting fired up for the “Welcome to Fin Land” Tour.  Check out www.pauhanaparrotheads.org for more info and ticket’s.

The Pau Hana Parrot Heads gathered at one of our favorite watering holes, the “Dixie Grill” in Pearlridge for a Pau Hana Friday event.  Twelve member were able to make the flocking and enjoyed some great food and drinks.  We even picked up several new members throughout the evening.  Thanks again to Patrick and the gang at “Dixie Grill” for letting us play our Buffett and Trop Rock favorites on the PA system, also for their hospitality and great service.  Phinz Up!!!!
Dec 19
Aloha,

Thanks to all the Pau Hana Parrot Heads who were able to make it out to our annual Christmas event this past Saturday night at Cha Cha Cha’s in Hawaii Kai.  We had a turn out with a total of 27 members showing up at some point throughout the night.  Mahalo to board member Jeff Eck for carrying out the MC duties and keeping the gift exchange interesting.   There was quite a variety to choose from this year, ranging from a quite exquisite wine holder complete with bottles of wine, 12 pack of Landshark’s, a flamingo yard piece and maybe the most passed around item of the night a “Chairman Mao” watch!!!

Those who were able to stick around until later in the evening were treated to one of the best Boat Christmas Light Parade’s on Oahu.  Seem’s like the number of entries were down this year, but those who participated whet all out and put on a really fantastic show.  The “Rocket Pack” guy’s were very entertaining and probably the highlight of the event…can’t wait to try one out!!!

Musical entertainment for the night was the duo “Mango Season”, they put on a really nice show and even did a few “Buffett” numbers and other request’s just for our group.  I’ll have to admit it’s the first time I’ve ever heard the song “Mr San Cho Lee”, pretty funny local song…check it out on Youtube if you like.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kS2YLvGGtwY&feature=related

Finally a big Mahlao to Angie, Jeff and the crew out at Cha Cha Cha’s for their service and providing one of the most fantastic waterfront venue’s on Oahu to our club.  Please stop by and check them out anytime time you’re in the Hawaii Kai area…live music throughout the week and great Happy Hour drink and dining special’s every day.

We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year’s…and look forward to seeing all back in 2012.  Our next club social will be at Dixie Grill in January.  Also please keep Friday Feb 17th open on your calendar’s for a big night at Jimmy Buffett’s.  It’s a joint venture with over 70 folks from the Tampa Bay Parrot Head Club who are in town for the Norwegian Hawaiian Island Cruise.  Lot’s of great live Trop Rock music with the group’s “Latitude”, “Sunny Jim” and one of our local favorites.

Aloha,

Great time for all those who came out this past Saturday night for Rob Mehl’s House Concert at the Waikiki Yacht Club. Rob put on a fantastic show for our small group, it was a really magical night. He incorporates many of the sights and sounds of old Waikiki into his Trop Rock song lyrics and stories. Most likely one of the best performances to ever hit the Yacht Club. Hoping to catch his act again sometime in the future when he comes back to the Islands to produce his upcoming CD.
A big Mahalo also to club member and sponsor Lyle Holden for reserving the venue for our group, and our VP Deane Leidholt for use of his sound equipment. Check out our website and facebook page Pau Hana ParrotHeads for more pictures.
Please join us in October at Jimmy Buffett’s for the “Mac Attack”, San Diego entertainer Mac MacDonald will be putting on a show for our group. It’s always a wild time with Mac…please check out his website at http://www.macmacdonald.com/fr_homepage.cf

Aug 26

Phinz Up to all those who were able to attend our annual “Late Summer Memership Bash” at Jimmy Buffett’s this past Saturday Aug 20th. We kicked off the event at 3:00pm with Domonique and Bronson, the guys from Borderline who put on a fantastic set. The duo covered many Island favorites as well as some Buffett, Zac Brown and Kenny Cheney hits. Bronson ripped it up with his Ukulele, probably one of the best solo’s ever performed on the “Porch of Indecision”.
At around 4:45pm Trop Rock entertainer Scotty Bryan took the stage and did not disappoint. He covered many Buffett tunes old and new along with other Trop Rock favorites and some originals, putting on another unforgettable performance that lasted until Buffett’s shut the place down at around 9:00pm.

MC Jeff Eck, kept the show moving smoothly during the breaks with plenty of great door and raffle prizes. So many way’s to win and so little time!!!
Club Vice Pres. Deane Leidholt kicked off the final round of bidding on the auction at 8:00pm. Some of the most desired item’s were a LandShark Bar Light, several decorative full size Pacifico and Corona Surfeboards, a framed Wyland Print and a limited edition Kona Longboard sign.

We would like to give special thanks to David Erp, Randy Calinski and Jason the sound guy from Jimmy Buffett’s for allowing us to hold this great event on the “Porch of Indecision” also to Margaritaville store manager Colleen Benevedes for all the great donations used as door prizes. Many thanks to the entire list of Restaurants, Bars and Businesses Island wide who generously contributed over $1300 in gift certificates and the many auction items. Finally, a big Mahalo to our entertainer’s and the entire group of Pau Hana Parrot Head Officers and Board Members who put in many hours of hard work and helped make this event possible.

Management at Jimmy Buffett’s stated that they’ve heard lot’s of great feedback about our event and would love to have us back again next year. The final tally raised from the raffle and auction for USO Hawaii was $2450.00. A pretty good showing for our small Phlock!!!
